Social Media Scaling

Paid Social

A consumer tech brand with 2,200 followers and a 0.4% engagement rate needed a social ecosystem — not just a content calendar. The mandate: engineer compounding organic reach through algorithmic signals, not ad spend alone.

[ 01 ] — CONTEXT

The brand's social presence was algorithmically invisible. A 0.4% engagement rate signalled low community sentiment and poor content-market fit — the Discovery Feed had effectively deprioritised the account. Previous agencies had optimised for aesthetic consistency and follower count, two vanity metrics with zero correlation to reach or revenue. Share rate, the primary virality coefficient, sat below 0.1% per post. The account had never been stress-tested for Watch Time, Hold Rate, or DM conversion — the three signals that actually drive distribution on short-form platforms.

[ 03 ] — EXECUTION
01PHASE 01

Conducted a full algorithmic audit: Watch Time heatmaps, audience retention curves, and Share-to-Reach ratios across the previous 90 days of content. Identified that hook failure — viewers dropping before the 2-second mark — was the single largest suppression factor. Built a three-pillar content architecture: Pattern-Interrupt (Discovery), Authority Proof (Consideration), and Direct-Response (Conversion). Produced 48 short-form video assets in 30 days across Reels and TikTok — each with three distinct hook variants for structured A/B isolation. Thumbnail iterations were tested in weekly sprints using Hold Rate as the primary creative KPI [Key Performance Indicator].

02PHASE 02

Hypothesis: Shares, not Likes, drive the viral loop on Meta and TikTok's Discovery Feeds. Repositioned primary KPI from engagement rate to Share-to-View ratio. Restructured content cadence as an engineering schedule — 5 short-form posts per week distributed across peak algorithmic windows (6–8AM and 7–9PM local audience time). Implemented a 2-hour community response protocol across all inbound comments and DMs to maintain account health score and signal community sentiment to the algorithm. Escalation paths were defined for negative feedback to protect brand equity during high-reach distribution events.

03PHASE 03

By week 3, two content pillars had triggered Discovery Feed amplification — Watch Time above 78% average and Share rates 14x above baseline. Scaled winning formats immediately with a bi-weekly creative refresh cycle to prevent algorithmic fatigue. Introduced DM automation flows tied to high-performing Reels to capture bio-link intent and move audiences from Discovery into a measurable conversion pathway. Paid distribution was activated in week 6 as an amplification layer on top of proven organic signals — not as a substitute for them.

TECHNICAL TAKEAWAY

Organic reach is not a content problem — it is a signals engineering problem. Share rate is the virality coefficient that unlocks the Discovery Feed. When you engineer for shares first, paid amplification compounds what already works.
